smartlab Hasselt x ACT XII

Parallel Program

GLITCH by Stefan Peters
04/10/19 – 17/11/19

Stefan Peters initially obtained his master’s degree in graphic design in Genk in 2000, but over the years he turned into a visual artist. He completed his skills during numerous residencies at home and abroad and in 2015-16 at the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht (NL). Kristof Reulens describes Peters in the database of kunstpunt as “the landscape painter of the twenty-first century”. His art of painting, however, amply exceeds the medium as he increasingly seeks spatiality beyond the surface.

Peters’ intervention for ACT XII concerns a constellation of transparent slats in acrylic, whether or not painted (with landscape fragments?) And freely suspended in the space. Time, light and movement do the rest: Glitch (the original meaning of the English term means as much as: the unexpected output that results from a short-term electronic or software malfunction) also refers to the installation with flags that he made for the CORDA campus following the SCREEN IT city triennial.

Stefan Peters is also in Luc Theuwis’ selection for F.O.M.A. which is also part of the parallel programming of this triennial. ACT XII will therefore be launched – meanwhile live streaming and screening – at the opening of F.O.M.A. in the Vennestraat in Genk … also a digital and visual link between the two participating cities in SCREEN IT.
