Hito Steyerl (DE, 1966) is a filmmaker, visual artist, and writer. Her principal topics of interest are media, technology, and the global circulation of images. She is currently a professor of New Media Art at the Berlin University of the Arts. For its metaphors and satirical humour her work pioneers the boundaries of the traditional video. She often works often with themes such as militarization, surveillance migration, the role of the media in globalization and the dissemination of images and culture.
