Patrick Ceyssens: Van kijken naar beelddenken until 25/11/19

21.09.2019 / CCHA

IMPACT, the Euregional project on new technology and arts, is starting a second forum / festival from 3 November. But CCHA does not wait that long to make the problem ‘visible’. Already on Friday, September 21, we will open two exhibitions that fully fit into the ‘frame’ of IMPACT! There are few contemporary artists who make the subcutaneous effect of images as tangible as Patrick Ceyssens.

Two red threads intertwine in his oeuvre. On the one hand there is the theme of memory and its deceptive spell. He often goes to work with amateurish photographs or video recordings as objets trouvés: pieces of neglected but emotionally laden daily culture that often capture poetic elements of reality precisely in their imperfection and open-mindedness.

On the other hand, his work does not lose itself in melancholy and romanticism because he always causes a disruption or a break. The effect of the image can no longer be separated from that of the memory: Our mind is the only canvas – as one of its titles reads.
